Kenzie Zacharias is not your typical teenager. She is a beautiful cheerleader who cheers every Friday for her school’s football team. While she cheers her team on, she is also cheering up many of the people on the benches.
Zacharias has down-syndrome, but she doesn’t let it stop her from joining in for the school spirit. In fact, she is always super happy and can be seen with a huge smile on her face. She is the most cheerful cheerleader there is.
Anything is possible
This girl from Clarkston, Michigan is showing the world that when you set your mind to something, you can achieve it. She may be only 16 years old, but she is dedicated and doesn’t let anything get her down.
“The day she was born, we didn’t know she had Down syndrome,” Kelly Zacharias, her mother, told WJBK. “I said to Joe, I kind of went into mourning for 24 hours only. And I was so scared of how people were going to accept her. This is just the epitome of every mother’s dream to have this happen for her and I hope it happens to other special needs children because she is capable.”
How did Kenzie become a cheerleader? She loved to watch the cheerleaders practice. She would sit on the side and watch them and smile whenever they did flips and dances she liked. One time, a cheerleader noticed her watching them practice and went up to her. She told her to join them and since then she has been practicing with them almost every day.
Together, she and her cheerleader friends spread the happiness. They know that friendship isn’t about being popular or wearing the right kind of shoes, but rather it’s about sharing interests and love. Next time you feel there’s no hope left in the world, just think of this story. You’ll immediately see the beauty and love that exists.
